Bambu Lab X1 Carbon vs Formlabs Form 4
Side-by-side comparison of features, pricing, ratings, and alternatives.
The Bambu Lab X1 Carbon is a high-speed FDM 3D printer that has rapidly gained popularity for combining fast print speeds with extensive automation, including AI-powered first-layer inspection, automatic bed leveling, and flow calibration that removes most manual tuning. Paired with the optional AMS (Automatic Material System), it supports up to 16 colors or materials in a single print with automatic filament switching, enabling multi-color prints without manual intervention. A built-in camera lets users monitor and time-lapse prints remotely via the Bambu Handy app, and the enclosed chassis improves temperature stability for printing more demanding materials like ABS.
The Form 4 delivers industrial-grade accuracy with a 25 µm XY resolution, making it ideal for functional prototypes and low-volume production. Its sealed resin cartridge system simplifies material handling and reduces contamination risk. Connected to the Formlabs Dashboard, the printer supports remote job submission, monitoring, and detailed print analytics, enabling streamlined workflows for engineering teams.
Around $1,199 for the printer, AMS unit sold separately.

What reviewers say
Bambu Lab X1 Carbon Reviews
4.0 (4)Good, not great
Mixed feelings about Bambu Lab X1 Carbon after using it for a while. On the plus side, strong build quality and enclosure. That said, more closed ecosystem than fully open-source printers, which held us back from rating it higher.
Highly recommend Bambu Lab X1 Carbon
Bambu Lab X1 Carbon has quickly become part of our daily routine. Very fast print speeds. No major complaints so far. Would recommend.
Does exactly what we need
Been a regular user of Bambu Lab X1 Carbon for a while now. Extensive automation reduces manual tuning. One minor gripe: ams is a costly separate purchase, but it hasn't been a dealbreaker. Would recommend.
